Recreio dos Bandeirantes · Rio de Janeiro

Jardins Barra Bonita

Recreio's gated 1990s residential pocket — roughly twenty condominiums sharing a square, an association and a family routine.

About the building

Barra Bonita is one of the three recognized sub-districts of Recreio dos Bandeirantes, a planned residential pocket of around twenty independent gated condominiums north of Avenida das Américas, on streets such as Rua Linda Batista. Stock ranges from standard and garden apartments to linear and duplex penthouses with up to five bedrooms, plus clusters of houses in their own gated rows.

Each condominium runs its own entrance, security and leisure — pools, gyms, party rooms, gourmet spaces — and the whole area shares a kept public square with playgrounds and green space. It is the part of Recreio that families pick when they want condominium infrastructure without Barra's prices or traffic.

Address: Rua Linda Batista, Barra Bonita, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro

History

The area was developed as Recreio urbanized in the late 1980s and 1990s, and its residents' association — ASSMO, the Associação dos Moradores dos Jardins Barra Bonita — was founded in the early 1990s to coordinate the cluster of condominiums and represent them before the city.

That association structure is the distinctive thing about Barra Bonita: it behaves less like a row of unrelated buildings and more like a small managed district, which has kept the streets, square and services in noticeably better shape than the Recreio average.
