About the building

The Centro Empresarial Mourisco occupies Praia de Botafogo 501, facing the bay at the Urca end of the beachfront avenue. Opened in 1998, it is two nine-floor towers — named Pão de Açúcar and Corcovado — wrapped in a blue-glass curtain wall, with two gold-leafed globes on the facade that make it instantly recognizable from the aterro. Total built area is about 48,000 m².

It is an office address, not residential, but it anchors the corporate end of Botafogo: the ground floor holds shops and a convention center, and tenants have included PREVI, banks and multinationals. For buyers, its relevance is what it signals — the Praia de Botafogo corridor is the neighborhood's business spine, which keeps weekday services, restaurants and transport dense around it.

History

The complex was built in the 1990s on the site once associated with the Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas club grounds and inaugurated in 1998, at the peak of Botafogo's conversion into Rio's second office district after Centro. The name nods to the Pavilhão Mourisco, the Moorish-style pavilion that historically stood on this stretch of the Botafogo waterfront.

Since opening it has stayed among the most sought-after corporate addresses in the Zona Sul, with the pension fund PREVI as long-time owner-occupier and a rotating cast of banks and consultancies in the towers.
