The green-tiled tower on Vieira Souto.
Landmark buildingItacurussá stands at Av. Vieira Souto 620 with one of the most recognizable façades on the Ipanema beachfront — an unbroken wall of emerald-green ceramic tile that doubles as a landmark along the avenue. It holds around 30 apartments, every one of them looking onto Praia de Ipanema, either head-on or panoramically.
Little inventory comes up here. The building has been a high-society address for five decades, and most apartments are still held by families who bought in during the 1970s and 1980s. When one does sell, the price reflects both the oceanfront position and the building's name recognition.
Address: Av. Vieira Souto 620, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro
Construction began in 1966 and the building opened in 1970, making it one of the first towers above ten floors on Avenida Vieira Souto — built right after the city loosened its rules to allow tall beachfront construction in Ipanema. It sits next door to the Rio de Janeiro Country Club.
Through the 1980s the Itacurussá became a gathering point for carioca high society, with traditional families in the upper-floor units; the green-tile façade has been kept intact through every renovation cycle since.
