The 30-story slab at Posto 5 — the tallest hotel on the Copacabana beachfront since 1977.
Landmark buildingThe Rio Othon Palace fills the block of Avenida Atlântica 3264, at the corner of Rua Xavier da Silveira, directly across from the sand at Posto 5. At 98 meters and 30 floors it has been the tallest hotel on the beachfront since it opened, with 585 rooms and a rooftop pool deck that gives one of the widest views of the full crescent of Copacabana.
It remains the flagship of the Othon group, the Brazilian hotel family that has operated in Rio for the better part of a century. For a buyer the building matters less as inventory than as a landmark: it anchors the Posto 5 stretch, and apartments in its shadow trade on the same beachfront block.
Address: Av. Atlântica 3264, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro
The tower opened in 1977, at the peak of the 1970s wave that added big international-class hotels to the Zona Sul beachfront. Its scale was the point — a 30-story, 585-room slab planted mid-beach, visible from anywhere on the crescent.
Through the decades it has hosted the conventions, réveillon parties and Carnival bases that come with being one of the largest hotels in Rio, and it remains the most prominent piece of the Othon chain's portfolio.
